History

The electorate was created in 1946, partly from the Christchurch North electorate which Sidney Holland had previously held.[1] It was abolished in 1969, when Eric Holland went to the nearby Riccarton electorate. It was then recreated in 1978, and abolished in 1996, the first MMP election.[2]
